Executive Summary
Brown, Vence & Associates, Inc. (BVA) was retained by the State of Nevada Division of
Environmental Protection (NDEP) to identify and promote recycling programs in public
buildings and large commercial facilities in Clark County, Nevada (County). For this project,
BVA:
- Researched model public building and commercial recycling programs from
communities outside of the County, including: Alameda County, California, Portland,
Oregon, Reno, Nevada, Seattle, Washington, and Tucson, Arizona.
- Researched existing public building and commercial recycling programs in the
County, including: Clark County Grand Central Parkway complex, Clark County
Health District Shadow Lane complex, City of Henderson City Hall, Las Vegas Valley
Water District Valley View Boulevard complex, State of Nevada Grant Sawyer
building, Medco Health Solutions, Inc., and Sierra Health Services, Inc.
- Collected information on the types of recycling services available and produced a
Recycling Guide for the project.
- Targeted over 40 facilities and recruited 25 facilities to participate in on-site waste
assessments, including schools, churches, manufacturers, warehouses, retail
establishments, and convention services.
- Conducted 25 overview waste assessments at the 25 targeted facilities, provided
program recommendations, follow-up and technical assistance.
